Is Elemi Oil Good For The Face? Yes It’s The Elixir Of Youth, See Why!

Researchers demonstrate Elemi oil stops aging where it begins

In 2012 Chanel Parfums Beaute Company filed a patent for the use of Elemi oil:, They demonstrated that Elemi oil has tremendous anti-aging properties. To test this they did in vitro tests on human skin cells.

The idea is as we age, parts of the extracellular matrix — which include collagens, elastin, glycosaminoglycans, and fibronectin — have a decrease in interaction. This inevitable loss of activity over time causes skin to sag with age.

“(Chanel) demonstrated, for the first time, that tensin 1 is a key protein in the process of the tensioning of the cells of the dermis (fibroblasts) and, in terms of cell activity, for increasing the firmness of the skin and for preventing and/or combating slackening of the skin resulting from the dermal aging process.

The applicant also demonstrated a decrease in intensin 1 expression during ageing.”

Chanel finds other anti-aging formulations inadequate as they don’t stop the problem at the source. They share that in place of simply increasing healthy cells, anti-aging compounds should be able to organize and firm the extracellular skin matrix.

For instance, some treatments are shown to increase elastin fibers within the skin, but they are not able to make the elastin fibers organized into neat, orderly rows.

This is a problem, as elastin becomes disorganized as we age, who wants older looking, sagging skin?!

In their research concerning Elemi oil, Chanel points to Tensin-1, a phosphoprotein that helps bind cells to the extracellular matrix. Chanel’s researchers  discovered a decrease in the expression of Tensin-1 as we age.

In their in-house tests on skin cells, Elemi essential oil increased the expression of Tensin-1.
